Estado Miranda is one of the 23 states (estados) into
which Venezuela is divided. The state capital is Los Teques. Miranda
State covers a total surface area of 7 950 km² and, in 2001, had an
estimated population of 2 330 872.
The Miranda State is integrated by 21 independent Municipalities and
42 foreign parishes, where 1,102 populated centers exist more than.
The territorial extension of the Miranda State is of 7,950 km and its
population according to projections is of 2,500,000 inhabitants. Their
more important cities are: The Teques (State Capital), Ocumare of the
Tuy, Charallave, Cúa, Santa Teresa of the Tuy, Guarenas, Guatire and
San Antonio of the Stops.It is located to the North of Venezuela in
the well-known region with the name of the Mountain range of the
Coast. It limits by the North with the Federal District, by the South
with Guárico and Aragua, by the East with the Caribbean Sea and the
West with the Aragua State. The Miranda State is called thus from the
year of 1,909, in honor to the generalissimo Francisco de Miranda,
annealed with justice like "the first universal Creole", political and
military genius that was elbowed with the greatest personalities of
its time, that fought in the French Revolution and was the precursor
of Hispano-American Independence.
Specifically its Capital "the Teques", was founded on year 1.703.
